To optimize my resume, I used prompts focused on tailoring it for an Information Systems role. I asked for help rewriting bullet points to sound more data-focused, improving my objective statement, and identifying stronger keywords. I also prompted the AI to make my experience more results oriented without exaggerating my responsibilities, and to refine wording so it aligned with technical and analytical skills relevant to IS. Between my original resume and the revised version, the main changes were in wording and focus. My bullet points shifted from general descriptions to more specific, data-driven language. For example, tasks like “handling records” became “reviewing and organizing data for reporting and accuracy.” The objective was created and targeted towards information systems and my technical skills section was clarified to highlight tools like Excel more effectively. From this process, I learned that prompt engineering plays a major role in the quality of output. Being specific about the job field and desired tone led to more relevant improvements. I also learned how important it is to tailor content for a specific audience, emphasizing the skills and language that align with the expectations of that field.
